Five JCD cadres chargesheeted

Sylhet Kotwali police yesterday submitted charge sheet against five JCD cadres in the case for killing deputy manager of the state-run Jalalabad Gas Transmission & Distribution Company Limited Wasiur Raza Chowdhury alias Razi in July. Investigation officer of the case sub inspector Ikhtiar Uddin told this correspondent yesterday that he submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, Sylhet. The chargesheeted accused are Abdul Khalique Milton, Abdul Ahad Ferdous, Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Khorshed Alam Shiplu and Shawkat Ali. Among them, Mizan and Shawkat are at large. Organised goons in the name of JCD cadres beat Wasiur, 37, also a diploma engineer dead as he tried to save his cousin Mamed from their attack in the city's Mazumderpara on 5 July. Wasiur was staying at the under-construction house of his maternal uncle there. He had been looking after the construction work as his uncle Shamsul Haque was abroad. The incident took place at night when Wasiur came out to save his cousin Mamed who was being beaten by an armed gang. Mamed was attacked as he hinted at stealing of iron rods by some locals from the house in the morning. As Wasiur asked the gang to stop beating Mamed, they swooped on him and beat him mercilessly. Wasiur later died at Osmani Medical College and Hospital at about 11:00 pm. Besides, the gang vandalised the house and tried to stop the ambulance called for Wasiur.
