Story behind murder of Nazrul in Katiadi

Chief of Chandapur union Awami Swechhasebok League in Katiadi upazila was murdered on Tuesday allegedly by a man for having affairs with his younger sister. Police said, tendons of hands and legs of Md Nazrul Islam, 27, were cut off by Mamun, 26, son of Rumu Mia of Debaler Kanda village. Mamun also poured acid into Nazrul's mouth, they said. Police arrested four people including prime accused Mamun and recovered Mamun's mobile SIM card from near the killing spot in abandoned state on Thursday. They also recovered his blood stained pant, shirt and the napkin used for killing from the house of his alleged accomplice Jilan, 25, on Friday. Earlier, on Wednesday morning, police recovered the body of Swechhasebok League leader Nazrul Islam, son of Abdul Jabbar of Uttar Chandapur village in Katiadi from near a paddy boiler behind Manik Khali Bazar in the upazila. Abdus Samad, elder brother of the deceased filed a murder case with Katiadi police station on the same day. Police said, searching the mobile call lists they found that the last call by Mamun was made around 10 minutes before the killing. Responding to this call, Nazrul went to the spot Tuesday around 10:00pm. Matiur Rahman, sub-inspector (SI) of Katiadi PS and investigation officer (IO) of the case said, on getting the mobile clue, police arrested Mamun from his tea stall at Manik Khali Bazar on Thursday and following his confession, police arrested his three other accomplices Saiful Islam, 45, Sujan Mia, 26 and Angur Mia, 25 of the same village. SI Matiur Rahman said, Mamun in his statement before the magistrate confessed to killing the victim with the help of others as he (Nazrul) continued affairs with his younger sister even after her marriage.
