Robbers loot expat's house
Robbers looted gold ornaments and other valuables worth Tk 9 lakh from an expatriate's house at Gandharbapur village in Rupganj upazila early Friday.
Locals said a gang of armed robbers numbering 12/14 coming in two microbuses stormed into the house of Malaysia expatriate Aktar Hossain at about 3am.
Later, they took Aktar Hossain's after Abdul Hye hostage at gunpoint and looted Tk 1 lakh in cash, 9 tolas of gold ornaments and other valuables.
The robbers at one stage stabbed Abdul Hye, 60, his wife Sakhina Begum, 52, as they tried to resist them. The injured were admitted to a local clinic.
In Sylhet, robbers looted cash and valuable worth Tk 20 lakh from a house at Pashchim Peer Mahalla in the city early Wednesday.
Police quoting local people said the gang numbering 6/7 entered the house of Zahar Chowdhury by breaking the window grills late at night.
Later, they took the people of the house hostage at gunpoint and looted Tk 1.88 lakh in cash, 38 tolas of gold ornaments and other valuables.
In Jamalpur, railway police on Wednesday arrested three alleged robbers, who killed four passengers by throwing them from the rooftop of an intercity train on September 7.
Of the robbers, two were arrested from Islampur upazila of the district while the other from Karwan Bazar area in Dhaka, reports our correspondent.
The arrestees are Ershad, 18, son of Forhad Ali, Sabdul, 18, son of Zahurul Islam and Mozammel, 26, son of Mosharaf of village Bolakipara in Gualerchar union under Islampur upazila of the district.
Railway police sources said, the arrested three were allegedly involved in pushing four passengers including two university students off the rooftop of Dhaka bound Agnibina intercity train at different points of Jamalpur-Mymenshing route on September 7.
The robbers looted belongings of passengers and also injured six others during the incident, they said.
Earlier, police arrested Hashu, 18, son of late Iddris at village Sardarpara and Afsar Ali, 18, son of Ahab Uddin at village Kolkihara in Bokshiganj upazila of Jamalpur in connection with the robbery.
