2 held red-handed while kidnapping college girl
Four people, including a director of Jamalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, have been sued for their alleged bid to abduct a girl student of Sherpur Polytechnic Institute on Thursday.
The accused are Shyamol Chandra Saha, director of Jamalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mahmud, manager of Shymol's business firm Messrs Durga Enterprise, his driver Alam, and one Dipu of Bazaripara village in Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur district.
Police with the help of locals rescued the girl and arrested two of the accused, Shyamol and driver Alam, while the rest managed to flee.
Victim's father filed a case against the four with Dewanganj Police Station on Thursday night.
The victim, a fourth semester student, was going to her village home at Nayagram under Bahadurabad Union of Dewangonj upazila from Sherpur town on puja vacation on Thursday afternoon.
She reached Sherpur Bridge in an auto-rickshaw at around 3:00pm and hired a rickshaw to go her village home. When she was passing Baniabazar area of Jamalpur town at around 4:00pm, a jeep intercepted her rickshaw.
Mahmud and Dipu got down from the jeep, pressed a hand to her mouth and forcibly picked up her into the jeep. Shyamol got into the jeep in Ambaria area of Melandah upazila.
As they were proceeding towards Dewanganj border, locals stopped the jeep, hearing screams of the girl at Battala in Bahadurabad Union of Dewangonj upazila around 5:00pm. They rescued the girl and caught Shyamol and his driver Alam while Mahmud and Dipu managed to flee.
Being informed Dewangonj police rushed to the spot and arrested Shyamol and jeep driver Alam.
Police said Shyamol and Alam were on Friday produced in a court that sent them to jail. Contacted, officer-in-charge of Dewangonj Police Station Matiur Rahman said they are looking for the two other accused.
