Call to cancel PSC 2008
Speakers at a seminar yesterday called upon the government to cancel Production Sharing Contract (PSC) 2008 and a PSC with US oil company ConocoPhillips for oil and gas exploration from two deep-sea blocks in the Bay.
The seminar was organised by Samajtantrik Chhatra Front of Rajshahi University (RU) unit at the university, protesting the contract.
Speaking as the chief guest, Engineer Sheikh Mohammad Shahidullah, convener of National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports said the deal would not help end the country's chronic power shortage.
Debashis Roy, secretary member of Bangladesh Socialist Party Rajshahi unit; Abul Kalam Azad, convener of the committee's Rajshahi unit; Mehedi Hasan and Pollob Bhatta Charya, president and general secretary of the front's RU unit; also spoke.
