Two teachers punished for sexual offence

A court in Natore on Wednesday sentenced a youth to life term imprisonment for killing a six-year-old girl after rape in Gurudaspur upazila in 2007. Judge Hasan Shahed Ferdous of Women and Children Repression Control Tribunal in the district also fined the convict Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer two years more rigorous imprisonment (RI). Convict Rubel Hossain, 24, is son of Rezaul Karim of Alipur village under Gurudaspur upazila in the district. According to prosecution, Rubel raped Lima Aktar, daughter of Nazmul Hossain and then strangled her in October 2007. In Manikganj, a mobile court sentenced a college teacher to three months jail for trying to sexually assault a class three student of Manikganj Government Primary School on Tuesday. Shibani Bhattacharya, additional district magistrate, gave the verdict against Golam Mostofa, a lecturer of physics department of Begum Jorina College, reports our correspondent. Inspector (Investigation) of Manikganj Sadar police station Rafikul Islam said the college teacher tried to take the student to roof top of the school in a bid to sexually assault her at around 9:05 am. The guardians rescued the girl and handed over the man to police. In Pabna, district primary education office (DPEO) has suspended a primary school teacher on charge of sexually harassing students, reports our correspondent. The suspended assistant teacher, Md Abul Kalam Azad, of Government Model Primary School in Sujanagar upazila under Pabna district was stand released on Thursday as he was found guilty of committing sexual harassment to three students.
