Hundreds of women, children and students held a procession and formed human chain in the town yesterday demanding immediate trial and punishment of the culprits who murdered housewife Nadira on July 22. They also held a protest rally at Pirganj Bazar. Later, they submitted a memo to the deputy commissioner. Nadira Begum, 21, wife of Ismail Hossain of Nazarpur village was burned to death allegedly by her in-laws on July 22. On July 26, police arrested Sumon, the main accused in the case, from the village in Sadar upazila. Sumon confessed to police that he and his mother were involved in the killing. He also told newsmen that they had a longstanding feud with Ismail's wife. Sumon said, he and his mother planned to kill Nadira as she often locked in quarrel with his mother. On July 22 night, they entered the room in absence of Ismail and tied up Nadira with her scarf and ropes and gagged her. Then Sumon doused kerosene on Nadira's body and set her on fire. Before her death at hospital, Nadira said that Sumon set her on fire. The only witness to the incident, Nadim Hossain, four-year-old son of Nadira said his uncle Sumon entered the room and set his mother on fire after tying her with rope on the floor of the room.
