Shops, poultry farm gutted
A devastating fire gutted six shops and a poultry at Mahmudpur bazaar in Melandah upazila early Tuesday. Fire service sources said the fire originated from a burning candle at a cloth shop late at night and soon engulfed the adjoining shops and the poultry farm of 300 hens. On information, two fire fighting units from Sadar and Islampur upazilas rushed to the spot and extinguished the flame with the help of local people after two hours of frantic efforts. Affected shop and farm owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 50 lakh.
