A precious statue weighing two kilograms was recovered from a private car in Bhatpara area on the Narsingdi-Gazipur road yesterday. Police said when a car tried to flee to avoid checking at a police check post, traffic sergeant Shah Alam Mandal barricaded the car with his motorbike after a hot chase. Later police found a statue kept in a white packet, 325 kgs of Indian silver, a blank cheque, a Japanese ID card and a visa card of the Bank of Tokyo. Driver Lutfar Rahman, 21, was arrested but the four passengers managed to flee.
