400 sacks of OMS rice seized in 2 districts

Police seized over 400 sacks of rice meant for Open Market Sale (OMS) programme in Gaibandha and Nilphamari districts on Monday. In Gaibandha, Sundarganj police in a drive on Monday recovered 350 sacks of rice allocated under Open Market Sale (OMS) from a truck in the town. Police arrested driver Jahedul Islam and helper Al-Amin in this connection and also seized the truck, reports our correspondent. Mostafizur Rahman, OC of Sundarganj police station said, on a tip-off a police contingent raided the rice mill of one Abul Mannan in the municipal area and detained the truck loaded with 350 sacks of government rice under OMS programme. The helper of truck confessed to police that the rice was bound for Satkhira district for illegal sale there. In Nilphamari, police arrested a rice trader along with 55 sacks of Open Market Sale (OMS) rice in Shakhamacha area of the city on Monday evening. The arrestee was identified as Nurul Islam. Police said, acting on secret information, police seized the rice from the warehouse of Nurul Islam. The rice was hoarded for sale on black market, he said.
