Teacher jailed for 46yrs for kidnap, rape of schoolgirl
A court here on Monday sentenced a schoolteacher to 46 years rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a schoolgirl.
Court sources said ASM Zahirul Islam, judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Jessore, announced the verdict in a crowded courtroom in presence of the convict.
The convict is Dipankar Biswas of Altapole Secondary School.
According to the prosecution story, Biswas kidnapped a student of class X of the same school and raped her on January 26, 2006.
Victim's father Abdus Sattar filed a case in this connection with Keshabpur PS on January 28 accusing five people including Dipankar Biswas as the main accused.
Police submitted charge-sheet before the court after investigation and the court after examining witnesses and relevant documents pronounced the verdict.
In Sherpur, a man was sentenced to life term imprisonment on Monday for killing his wife following a family feud in 2005, reports UNB.
The convict was identified as Alam Hossain alias Harun, 30, son of Fazar Ali of Nabingar area of the district town.
The court also fined the convict Tk 20,000 in default, to suffer two years more RI.
According to prosecution, Harun picked up a quarrel with his wife Roksana, 26, over a family matter on April 15, 2005 at night.
At one stage, Harun strangled his wife. Victim's sister filed a murder case with Sadar police in this connection.
After examining the record and witnesses additional district and sessions judge Nitai Chandra Saha pronounced the verdict.
