Two women commit 'suicide' in Satkhira
A young woman stabbed her husband to death in Gaibandha on Sunday while two housewives allegedly committed suicide in Satkhira on Sunday and Friday.
A man was stabbed to death allegedly by his wife following a family feud at Chak Barul village in Sadar upazila of Gaibandha on Sunday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Aminul Islam, 27, son of Alimuddin of the village.
Police and family sources said, Aminul used to quarrel with his wife Minara Begum on flimsy grounds since long. On the fateful night, he rebuked her over a trifling matter.
Later, at dead of night Minara stabbed sleeping Aminul indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body yesterday morning and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police arrested Minara. A case was filed.
In Satkhira, two housewives, being unable to bear the torture by their husbands anymore, allegedly committed suicide by taking poison on Sunday and Friday.
The victims were identified as Nurunnahar Begum, 25, wife of Nazrul Islam of village Ekra and Taslima Khatun, 25, wife of Rabiul Islam of village Khaspur in Kalaroa upazila.
Nurunnahar Begum's father Ibrahim Moral of Tala upazila said his daughter was married to Nazrul Islam about 8 years back. Soon after the marriage, Nazrul started to torture her for dowry off and on, he said.
He tortured her on Saturday evening which led to her death the next day, he said.
Police said Nurunnahar took poison at night being unable to bear the torture.
In the other incident, Taslima Khatun allegedly committed suicide by taking poison due to torture by her husband at village Mahmudpur on Friday night.
Taslima, daughter of Moslem Gazi of village Mahmudpur in the same upazila, was married with Shawkat Ali about three years ago.
Recently, Shawkat demanded Tk 50,000 dowry from the victim's father but Moslem Gani could not pay the amount.
On Friday morning, Shawkat beat the hapless woman mercilessly with bamboo stick leaving her injured seriously. Later, she took poison to get rid of torture for good, police said.
Villagers took Taslima to Kalaroa upazila health complex in critical condition where she died at about 10pm on the day.
