Death of student sparks protest
Agitated students blocked the Tangail-Mymensingh highway for one hour in Ghatail upazila yesterday following death of a fellow school student in a road accident.
Mominul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ghatail police station, said a passenger bus crushed Al-Amin, a Class V student of Oxford Kindergarten at Pakutia, under its wheels when he was crossing the road on Saturday night.
Protesting the death, fellow students of the school blocked the highway at Pakutia from 11:30am to 12:30pm.
The students withdrew the blockade after Habibur Rahman, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) in Ghatail, rushed to the spot and assured the students of constructing a speed breaker there, the OC added.
Meantime, a gridlock of hundreds of vehicles was created on both sides of the busy road, causing sufferings of the passengers.
