30 shanties, 8 houses gutted in 2 districts
At least 30 shanties and eight houses were gutted in two incidents of fire in Khulna and Kishoreganj yesterday.
A devastating fire gutted at least 30 shanties at Jabusha Uttarpara village under Rupsha upazila of Khulna district, reports our staff correspondent.
Sources said, the fire originated from electric short circuit at 11:00 am at a slum behind New Sea Foods, a shrimp processing factory.
Ten people were admitted to Rupsha upazila health complex and KMCH after they sustained severe burn injuries while trying to save their personal belongings and households from fire.
Fire brigade personnel from Khulna city and Rupsha units brought the fire under control at about 12:15pm.
The extent of loss caused by the fire was estimated at Tk25 lakh.
In Kishoreganj, eight houses were gutted at Beerkatiari village in Hossainpur early yesterday.
Locals said, the fire originated from one Mosharraf Hossain's cowshed and soon engulfed the adjacent seven houses.
On information, the fire brigade personnel from the town rushed to the spot and extinguished the flame after two hours of hectic efforts.
The owners of the houses put the lose at Tk50 lakh while fire service men estimated it around Tk 25 lakh.
In Rajbari, fire gutted five rooms of a house at Doulatdia brothel Friday afternoon.
Fire service sources said, the fire originated from an electric short circuit at the house and soon charred five rooms at around 5:00pm.
