Leaders call off strike at Barapukuria
People of Phulbari uapzila yesterday afternoon withdrew their indefinite strike following a meeting between local leaders of National Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Port Protection Committee and Dinajpur district administration.
The meeting was held at the local rest house of Roads and Highway Department (RHD).
However, officials of Barapukuria Coal Mine Company Ltd (BCMCL) did not attend the meeting.
At the two and half hours long meeting, the district administration partially accepted the demands and assured the meeting that the demands of agitating people will be met as early as possible, sources said.
After the meeting, ADM Azizul Islam and Mostafizur Rahman, acting SP, spoke to the people waiting outside the meeting venue. After that Saiful Islam Jewel, convener of National Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources and Port and Power Protection Committee, called off their indefinite strike.
