Sec 144 on several Khulna city points
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) yesterday imposed Section 144 on 13 places of the city from Thursday midnight as two Islamist groups and several ruling party groups called rallies today.
The 48-hour ban on gatherings will continue till Saturday midnight, said a KMP press release singed by its commissioner Shafiqur Rahman.
The KMP imposed Section 144 on Babri Chattar as Islami Ain Bastobayon Committee and Bangladesh Muslim Ummah Oikya Parishad called for rallies there after the Juma prayers today.
The 12 other points that fall under Section 144 include Baitunnur Mosque area, Moilapota Crossing, Shaheed Hadish Park, Rupsha Ferry Ghat and Royal Chattar in the city.
Bangladesh Muktijodhha Sangsad, city unit of Awami Jubo League, Jatiya Sramik League and Krishak League, Awami League of Sadar unit and Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad have also called for rallies at those points.
KMP imposed the ban on those points for the sake of public security, the press release said.
