Jubo League cadres stab Abhoynagar BNP chief
Abhoynagar BNP president Motiar Rahman Farazi was severely stabbed yesterday allegedly by Jubo League cadres of Noapara.
A senior member of the opposition party, he was hacked in broad daylight before hundreds of people at a marketplace at noon.
Motiar, hailing from Akterpur village under Abhoynagar upazila of Jessore, sustained stab injuries in different parts of his body. Chhatra Dal leader Niyamul Islam Rico was also injured while trying to save him from the attackers.
Rico, office secretary of Noapara municipality Chhatra Dal said, Motiar Rahman was sitting at Usha Medical, a pharmacy at Noapara Bazar at noon.
All of a sudden, a group of Jubo League activists led by Mona, Milon and Azim Sheikh appeared there with sticks and other lethal weapons.
They dragged the upazila BNP president out of the shop, beat him up and later hacked him indiscriminately in front of hundreds of people.
'They also beat me up as I tried to save him', Rico added.
Motiar and Rico were sent to upazila health complex and later shifted to Jessore General Hospital.
Dr Abdur Rouf of the hospital said, Motiar received stab injuries in his two hands, left leg and different parts of body. His two arms have been damaged, however, he is now out of danger, he said.
Kazi Golam Haider, secretary of Abhoynagar upazila BNP said, the attack was carried out as per the instruction of a local Awami League lawmaker to establish supremacy in upcoming union parishad election.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Abhoynagar police station said, some unknown activists were behind the cruel attack. No one filed any complaint in this regard, he added.
Assistant police superintendent Reshma Sharmin visited the spot.
Upazila BNP brought out a procession immediately after the incident in protest against the attack.
District BNP also held a protest rally and brought out procession in the afternoon.
