13 shops, 7 houses gutted in Patuakhali
A devastating fire gutted at least 13 shops and seven houses at a market in the district town early yesterday.
Local people said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a cotton shop of Abdul Jalil at the market at around 1:30am and soon engulfed the adjacent shops and houses.
On information, fire brigade from Sadar station rushed to the spot and doused the flame with the help of local people after two hours of frantic efforts.
Affected shop and house owners claimed that cash and valuables worth Tk 70 lakh were gutted in the blaze.
In Pabna, a fierce fire gutted four shops at Notabaria bazaar in Chatmohor upazila on Monday.
Fire service sources said the fire originated from explosion of IPS at a tea stall of the bazaar at around 1:00pm and soon engulfed the adjoining shops.
On information, fire service personnel from the district headquarters rushed to the spot and extinguished the flame with the help of local people.
Affected shop owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 10 lakh.
