A tribunal here on Tuesday sentenced a criminal to 17 years imprisonment in an arms case. The convict is Abdus Salam, son of Kosimuddin Sarder of Motiagachhi village in Sadar upazila. According to the prosecution, Salam was holding a meeting with his accomplices at his house on October 26, 2007. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house at around 3:00pm. Sensing the presence of the police men, Salam and his cohorts opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate. Later, police arrested bullet-hit Salam while his accomplices managed to flee. They also recovered a pipe gun and one bullet from his possession. After examining the records and witnesses, Judge of the Special Tribunal-1 Mohammad Golam Hossain pronounced the verdict.
