Storm kills teenage boy, lightning four others
A teenage bay was killed during storm in Jhenidah while four others were killed by lightning in Kishoreganj, Chuadanga, Jhenidah and Satkhira districts yesterday and the day before.
A violent storm in Jhenidah killed Md Hamid, 15, son of Jafar Mollik of Choto Dhalharpur under Shailkupa upazila. Hamid had appeared at the Dhakhil examination this year from Panch Pakhia Madrasa in the upazila, reports our correspondent.
Locals said at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday Hamid was returning home on his bicycle from Shailkupa bazar. When he reached Paikpara bridge point, a gusty wind blew over the area. At this, he lost control over his bicycle, skidded off the bridge to a ditch and died on the spot.
Meanwhile, lightning killed a youth while he was working at a paddy field at Badpukuria village under Sadar upazila.
Victim Saidul Islam, 25, was son of Dulal Mia of the village.
Locals said, Saidul was struck by lightning yesterday noon while he was working at his paddy field during rain.
In Kishoreganj, a farmer was killed by lightning in Katiadi upazila yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The deceased was identified as Ismail Hossain, 30, son of Sonam Uddin of Dakkin Purbachar village.
Locals said Ismail was struck by lightning while he was working at his paddy field near his house in the morning.
In Chuadanga, one person was killed and two others were injured by lightning yesterday at Chitla village in Damurhuda upazila.
Locals said Shahadat Hossain and two other farmers were injured as a thunderbolt struck them while they were harvesting paddy at a field at about 11:00 am.
They were rushed to Sadar hospital, but Shahadat, 30, died on the way.
In Satkhira, a man was killed by lightning at Balitha village in Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon.
Victim Abdul Jabbar,47, was son of Mohammad Ahammad Ali of the village of the village.
Quoting local people, police said, lightning struck Jabbar near his house killing him on the spot at about 4:30pm.
