Lightning kills 7 in four districts

Seven people were killed by lightning in Netrakona, Lalmonirhat Kurigram and Sherpur yesterday the day before, reports our correspondent. Lightning killed two people at Chitulia and Chowkidhara-Nawapara under Kendua upazila of Netrakona district yesterday The dead were identified as Shahid Mia, 35, of Chitulia village and Rahisuddin, 40, of Chowkidhar-Nawapara village. Locals said Shahid Mia and Rahisuddin were struck by lightning while working in a paddy field at around 6:00pm. Locals took them to the health complex where the doctors declared them dead. In Lalmonirhat, lightning killed Yasin Ali Mollah, 52, son of late Abdul Gofur of Shimulbari village in Sadar upazila, Alimuddin Miah, 58, son of late Nantu Miah of Azizpur village under Patgram upazila and Rahul Miah, 46, son of late Tarek Ali of Dawabari village of Hatibandha upazila on Monday. A day-labourer was killed by lightning in Nageswari upazila in Gaibandha Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Younus Ali, 45, son of late Gafur Ali of Moniar Char village under Nageswari municipality. According to sources, Younus was struck by lightning while working on a cropland at the village. In Sherpur, a farmer was killed by lightning at West Kumri village in Sadar upazila Monday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman, 45, son of Hazi Ashraf Ali of the village. Locals said the thunderbolt struck Abdur Rahman when he went to harvest paddy in a field adjacent to his house at around 2:00pm.
