Lightning kills four in two districts

Lightning killed four people in Rajshahi and Kishoreganj districts on Thursday. An elderly man and a young woman were killed by lightning during storm in two upazilas -- Bagha and Tanore-- in Rajshahi, reports our staff correspondent. Police and locals identified the victims as Tuhin Begum, 25, of Kishorpur of Bagha upazila and Altaf Hossain, 50, of Amso Mathurapur village in Tanore upazila. The sources said Tuhin Begum was struck by lightning when she went out to bring her cows back home during the storm while Altaf was supervising labourers at his crop field during rain. Both were rushed to health complexes in the upazilas where doctors declared them dead. In Kishoreganj, two farmers were killed by lightning in Katiadi on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Bakkar Mia, 55, son of Abdul Gani and Habi Mia, 30, son of Hossain Ali of Manziler Kanda village, reports our correspondent. Police and locals said the two were struck by lightning at around 2:30 pm while harvesting paddy at Manikhali Chandpur Beel (water body) in Katiadi. Both died on the spot.
