Hundred of people on Monday formed a human chain on a damaged embankment on the Monu River at Dolia-Belertol village in Kulaura upazila demanding its immediate repair. Addressing a rally at the venue, the speakers said if the embankment is washed away in the upcoming rainy season as many as 24 villages under Prithimpasa, Kormodha, Bhukshimul, Rautgaon, Kadipur, Tilagaon and Brahminbazaar unions will be inundated. They lamented, saying the authorities concerned have no headache to repair the embankment on emergency basis. The speakers expressed their indignation at sheer indifference of the authorities concerned to repairing the embankment and also threatened to launch a greater agitation if the embankment is not repaired as early as possible. Among others, Aftab Ali, convener of the Belertol River Embankment Protection Movement Committee, former chairmen of Prithimpasa union Abdul Gafur and Abdul Latif, JSD leader Abdul Gaffar and Khetmojur leader Syed Musarraf Ali addressed.
