BCL enforces indefinite strike at RMC
Demands punishment to JCD men for attack on college unit leaders
Rangpur Medical College (RMC) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) yesterday called an indefinite strike at the college demanding action against the attackers on BCL RMC unit President Ashfaqul Huq Khandker and Organising Secretary Sohag Hossain.
Academic activities of the college remained suspended due to the strike yesterday.
At a press conference at the college auditorium, BCL leaders of RMC declared that they would continue the strike until their demand is met.
They alleged that a number of outsider goons backed by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) attacked them, entering their rooms of Mukta Hostel at dawn yesterday.
Injured during the incident, two BCL leaders were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
"Outsider JCD activists wanted to hold a concert at the college campus. At first the principal allowed it but he later cancelled the permission following protest from Sohag and me,” said Ashfaqul Huq Khandker at his bed of RMCH.
"As we protested the programme by outsiders, the JCD men engaged goons to attack us at our rooms in the hostel," he said.
Ashfaqul and Sohag said they could not identify the attackers as they were masked.
Contacted, acting Principal of the college Mirza Nazrul Islam said, “We are yet to be sure. Cancellation of the cultural programme might be the cause of attack on Ashfaq and Sohag.”
He hoped that the strike would be withdrawn today (Monday) as the college authority is going to take legal action in this connection.
