29 rescued while being trafficked to India

At least 29 people were rescued by border guards yesterday and the day before in Joypurhat and Jessore districts while being trafficked to India. In Joypurhat, 17 people were rescued by the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Atapara border point of Panchbibi upazila yesterday noon, reports our Dinajpur correspondent. All the rescued people hailed from Ukhia and Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar. The BGB members also arrested human trafficker Md Hossain Ali, 35, of Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar from the spot. The eight rescued children were identified as Anisur Rahman Anis, 2, son of Hakim Uddin of Kulupang village of Ukhia upazila, Amira Begum, 3, Morzina Begum, 5, Anar Koli,3, daughters of Zakir Hossain of Kulupang in Ukhia, Jobayer Ali, 5, and Zohar Ali, 3, sons of Md Younus Ali of Leda Natun village of Cox's Bazar. There were also Rafiqul Islam, 4, and Selim Mia, 5, but their details could not be known. The five rescued women are Nur Jahan Begum, 35, wife of Md Younus Ali, Fatema Begum, 21, wife of Zakir Hossain, Latifa Begum, 19, daughter of Hakim Uddin of Leda Natun in Cox's Bazar, Parveen, 18, daughter of late Ershad Ali of Ukhia and Hasina Begum, 17, daughter of late Nur Ahmed of Ukhia. Four other rescued men are Md Rafidullah, 36, son of late Ershad Hossain of Ukhia, Md Abdul Hakim, 25, son of late Yousuf Ali of Kulupang in Ukhia, Zakir Hossain, 33, son of late Sultan Ahmed and Md Younus Ali, 28, son of Md Kutubuzzaman of Leda Natun village in Teknaf. The rescued people told reporters that the traffickers were taking them to various places of India including New Delhi promising to give lucrative jobs. In Benapole, Jessore, members of BGB rescued 12 more people while they were being trafficked to India through Boroachra border Wednesday night, reports our correspondent. Acting on a tip-off, BGB men raided the area, rescued the victims, and later handed them over to Benapole port police. The victims are Nargis Begum,14, Kulsum Begum,19, Khalilur Rahman,25, Ibrahim Sikder,28, Amin Howlader,28, Salim Sheikh,30, Sarmin,9, Nasir Talukder,26, Abul Basher,29, Sarwar Hossain,32, Sumon Fakir,31, and Hanif Mia,34. BGB Benapole camp in-charge Liakot Ali said, a gang of traffickers brought the aforesaid people from Bagerhat and Pirojpur districts to send them to India, promising good jobs. None of the traffickers could be arrested as they fled the scene, sensing presence of the border guards.
