Fire destroys 40 shops in Chandpur, Netrakona
At least 40 shops were quitted in Chandpur and Netrakona yesterday and the day before.
Twenty-five shops were destroyed in a fire at Changarchar municipal market under Motlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur early yesterday.
On information, firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control with the help of local people at around 3:00am.
The origin of the fire could not be known immediately, said a fire fighter, Khalilur Rahman, adding the damage caused by fire is estimated at Tk one crore.
A shopkeeper was also injured in the fire.
In Netrakona, two people were injured and at least 15 shops burnt to ashes in a devastating fire at Baghra Bazar under Sadar upazila in the district early Tuesday
The fire originated from a grocery shop of Biplob Chandra Das at about 4.30am and soon engulfed the adjacent shops, police said.
Anju Mia and Rahamat Ali, two shop owners of the bazar, were injured in the fire and admitted to Netrakona Sadar Hospital.
On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after one and half hour long frantic efforts with the help of local people.
Valuables worth about the 30 lakh were damaged, fire service sources said.
In Sherpur, at least seven dwelling houses were gutted in a fire which broke out at Sheikhhati Kamaria village in Sadar upazila Saturday early hours, reports UNB.
Local people said the fire originated from the kitchen of farmer Hasmot Ali of the village and soon engulfed the adjoining houses at around 4am.
On information, fire fighters from district headquarters rushed to the scene and brought the flame under control.
The affected house owners claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 5 lakh.
