<i>65 affected with diarrhoea using a pond's water</i>
A least 65 people at Mohabbatpur Dighipara village under Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat district have been affected with diarrhoea after using water of a pond at the village on Monday.
Civil Surgeon Dr Mozammel Haque confirmed the news, saying that a five-member medical team has been working in diarrhoea affected area since Tuesday afternoon. He also visited the area yesterday morning.
Civil Surgeon office sources quoting the villagers as saying that two people of a family were first affected with diarrhoea at Mohabbatpur Dighipara village. The disease spread within 24 hours, affecting 63 more people living around the pond.
Contacted, the civil surgeon said the situation is now under control. No fresh case was reported from the area as of 6:00pm yesterday.
UP chairman Abdur Rashid said the villagers have long been using water of the pond for washing their clothes, cleansing utensils and food items.
As the situation was getting worse, I informed the Joypurhat Sadar Hospital doctors who took prompt action to tackle the situation.
