Housewife set afire for dowry, dies
A woman who was set afire allegedly by her husband and in-laws for dowry in the district died at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) yesterday morning.
Razia Begum, 22, wife of Dulal Mia of Adarsha Para in Salban area under Sadar upazila of Khagrachhari was struggling with 50 percent burn on her person.
“They killed my daughters only for Tk 20,000. Being a father I am too much shocked as it happened just for my financial inability,” said shell-shocked Hosan Ali holding Razia's coffin when it reached the victim's Khagrachhari residence after a postmortem at CMCH.
According to family sources, Razia received burn injuries in her face, breast, arms, abdomen and other parts after her husband and in-laws doused her with kerosene and set afire at their house early Sunday .
Police detained Razia's husband, father-in-law Abdul Matin, mother-in-law Faruzi Begum on Sunday and also sister-in-law Hana Begum yesterday.
The victim's father filed a case in this regard with Khagrachhari police station, police said.
