Matin Mehedi, 3 aides jailed in serial blasts case
A court here yesterday sentenced top leader of Allar Dal Matin Mehedi and his three associates to 20 years rigorous imprisonment.
The court also fined Tk 10,000 each, in default to suffer one year more RI.
Judge of Special Tribunal-2 and Additional District and Session Judge Md Haidar Ali pronounced the verdict at noon.
The three associates of Matin Mehedi are 'Kurigram commander' Monwar Hossen Biplob, 'Kurigram Sadar upazila commander' Anwar Hossen and member of the outfit Jobed Ali.
Public prosecutor (PP) Abraham Lincoln said Matin Mehedi was an accused in the case for serial bomb attack in Jhenidah on August 17, 2005. He was sentenced of death for the blasts and he was a top leader of JMB at that time.
Kurigram police arrested him with his three aides from a rented house of one Tota Haji in Kurigram town on April 18, 2007.
Police Sub-inspector Md Nurul Islam filed a case with Kurigram Sadar PS on April 21, 2007 in connection of the bombing.
After a long hearing of 51 witnesses, the court pronounced the verdict yesterday.
PP Abraham Lincoln and additional PP Abdur Razzak stood on behalf of the government while advocate Idris Ali for the accused in the case.
