Man jailed for rape of schoolgirl

Youth held on charge of kidnapping college girl

A court here on Monday sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for three and a half years and fined Tk 5 thousand, in default, to suffer one month more in jail for violating a schoolgirl. The convict was identified as Jahedul Islam alias Bachchu, 40, son of Abdul Mannan of Choura village in Nilphamari district. According to prosecution, Bachchu violated an 8-year-old daughter of Azizur Rahman of Shait Pashimhati village in Nikli at a lonely place near her house on February 10, 2007. Hearing the screams of the girl, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the girl and admitted her to local health complex. They also caught Bachchu red-handed. Father of the victim filed a case under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Nikli police station. Rabiul Islam, additional district and sessions judge, handed down the verdict. In Mymensingh, police arrested a youth on charge of kidnapping a college girl at Durgabari Road in the town on Sunday. The arrestee was identified as Mriton Chakraborti, 24, student of Ananda Mohon College and son of Pradip Chakraborti of Kalibari road in the town, reports UNB. Police said, Mitu Rani Saha, student of Mymensingh Commerce College and daughter of Borgi Chandra Sen, was going to college at about 9am when 7/8 youths waylaid her and then tried to kidnap her. Hearing the cry for help, locals rushed in and caught one of the kidnappers, Mriton, along with a machet, a dagger and a knife while other accomplices managed to escape. The youth was later handed over to police. The injured college girl was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
