Storm lashed at least five villages in Auliapur union in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon, damaging about 300 houses and uprooting a number of trees. The storm, coupled with hailstorm, started at about 2:00pm and lasted about half an hour. It also damaged vast tract of maize and wheat fields, mango and litchi orchards and disrupted electricity in Sadar upazila. Two people-- Dabirul Islam,40, and Moina,13, of Vatapara village in the same union-- were injured as broken tree branches fell on them, Auliapur union parishad chairman Abdul Jalil said. Most affected villages are Maderganj, Auliapur, Vadgaon, Kochubari and Shaslapeyala in Auliapur union. Upazila nirbahi officer Touhidul Islam told this correspondent after visiting the storm-hit areas that he asked the local public representatives to prepare a list of affected families. Deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Foni Bhuson said they were making assessment of damaged crops. In Natore, a woman was killed as a wall collapsed on her during storm at Diar Garfa village in Boraigram upazila on Sunday night, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Jainab Bibi, 55, wife of Shukur Ali of the village. UP chairman Ataur Rahman said, Jainab Bibi was caught in the storm while retuning to her house at 10:00 pm from his son-in-law's house at Naraypur village. As she took shelter at a mud house its wall collapsed on her, leaving her dead on the spot.
