Additional District and Sessions Judge-III Manzurul Haque Khan passed the order as none of the prosecution witnesses, including the then officer-in-charge of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station, appeared in the court on the day. The accused in the case are Huji kingpin Mufti Abdul Hannan, Maulana Abu Sayeed, Abu Obaida Harun, Masud Ahmed Shakil, Sheikh Shahjahan and Dr Arif Ahmed Rifa. According to case, outlawed Huji men had planned to kill Sheikh Hasina who addressed her last election rally at Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa maidan on the night of September 26, 2001. Two young men were killed and another was injured in a bomb blast that took place at Dr Arif's house in the city's Fazilchist area hours before the rally. Police stated in the case statement that powerful bombs were making at the house to kill Hasina. Locals caught the injured, Masud Ahmed Shakil, as he was fleeing the scene soon after the blast.
