Six Shibir men arrested in Lalmonirhat

Six local leaders and workers of Islami Chhatra Shibir, arrested at Shoalmari village under Patgram upazila of the district on Tuesday, were sent to jail yesterday. They are Kuchlibari union Shibir president Moksedul Islam, 28, publicity secretary of Shibir Patgram upazila unit Asaduzzaman, 22, and Shibir workers Mizanur Rahman, 25, Jakir Hossain, 23, Hafez Ashraful Islam, 27, and Shafiqul Islam, 29. Police said more than 60 Shibir leaders and workers gathered at local Jamaat leader Shamser Ali alias Bachchu's house at the village at around 11:00am on Tuesday to discuss their next programme for obstructing war crime trial. Acting on a tip-off, Patgram police raided Bachchu's house and arrested the six while the rest, including the jamaat leader, managed to flee. Officer-in-charge of Patgram Police Station Murshidul Karim said a case was lodged against the six Shibir men for their involvement in anti-state activities. Police yesterday produced the arrestees in the Judicial Magistrate's Court. The court rejected their bail prayers and sent them to jail.
