Reception to freedom fighters in Pabna

A reception was accorded to 61 freedom fighters at a function held at Kodaliapara Primary School here on Monday. 'Chetona 52 to 71', a youth organisation of Pabna, accorded the reception to the freedom fighters of Maligasa union of Pabna Sadar and Chandva union of Atghoria upazila marking 40 years of independence of Bangladesh. Speakers lamented saying, “It is true that we achieved independence in 1971 but economic and cultural freedom is yet to be achieved although 40 years have passed after the independence." Later, the freedom fighters pledged to build a golden Bangladesh which was their dream. S M Sirajul Islam, president of the youth organisation chaired the occasion while Golam Faruk Khandaker, a lawmaker elected from Pabna-5 constituency, was present as chief guest. Among others, Pabna Sadar upazila chairman Mosharaf Hossain, Atghoria upazila chairman Isharat Ali, freedom fighters engneer Jahangir Alam and Harez Ali spoke on the occasion. Earlier, an essay competition was held for school students. Students of six high schools of Pabna and Atghoria participated. This was followed by a cultural function.
