13 held while selling OMS rice on black market

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested 13 people while selling OMS (open market sale) rice on black market in Gobindagnaj upazila and recovered 550 sacks of rice from the spot on Monday. Police said, on a tip-off, a contingent of Rab-5 raided the godown of Sujaul Faruk of Jheelpara in Gobindagnaj upazila and seized 550 sacks of government OMS rice from two trucks. The elite force also arrested 13 people involved in selling the rice on black market. The arrestees are Sujaul Faruk, Tofazzal Hossain, Moslem, Mostemuddin, Abdul Samad Bhutto, Badsha Mia, Jahidul Hoq, Jobber Ali, Niaz Morshed, Faridul Islam, Monower Hossain, Abdur Razzak and Abdus Samad. The Rab team also recovered 576 empty government sealed OMS bags from the godown premises. They later handed over the recovered rice and arrestees to police. The accused repacked the OMS rice in normal bags for selling those on black market, said Siddiqur Rahman deputy assistant director of Rab-5. They have been doing it for a long time, he added. Not only that, the arrestees also purchased food delivery order from food dealers and sold those on black market at high price, he further said. A case was filed with Gobindaganj police station.
