Robbers loot house in Kishoreganj, kill man in Noakhali

Robbers looted a house in Kishoreganj and killed a man in Noakhali on Monday and the day before while villagers caught four of a gang in Pabna on Tuesday. Robbers looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from a house at Khilpara village in Sadar upazila of Kishoreganj on Monday, reports our correspondent. Neighbours said a gang of robbers numbering 10-12 swooped on the house of Nurul Huda of the village at around 3:00 am breaking open the window grills. They looted cash Tk 5 lakh, 10 tolas of gold ornaments, mobile phone sets and other valuables keeping the house members hostage at gunpoint. Nurul Huda's younger brother's wife Sabita Akhter,30, was injured by robbers as she tried to raise a hue and cry. In Noakhali, an alleged robber killed one person at village Uttar Ramnarayanpur of Mohammadpur union under Chatkhil upazila on Sunday night, reports our correspondent. The victim was identified as Mohammad Hasan,28, son of late Salamat Ullah of village Sreerampur of Khilpara union of the same upazila. Nazmul Haque, officer-in-charge of Chatkhil police station quoting eye witnesses said Hasan was taking tea at a tea stall at Uttar Ramnarayanpur village around 11:00pm. All of a sudden, a gang of 4 wearing mask came there by two motorbikes and opened fire on Hasan, killing him on the spot. According to police, killer Hasan is a robber and accused in at least 10 cases of robbery and murder. Away in Pabna, four robbers were caught while fleeing after committing a robbery in Boya area of Santhia upazila early Tuesday, reports our correspondent. The arrestees were identified as Hosen Ali, 19, son of Shahadat Molla, Jomin alias Jamil, 28, son of Baten of Shalika village, Bikash Goswami, 20, son of Gurupad Goswami of Bongram village in Bera upazila and Abdus Salam, 35, son of Osman Sikder of Tolot village in Santhia upazila. They were trying to decamp after looting cash money and a mobile phone set from fish trader Abdus Salam of nearby Boya Khorbagan area in the upazila. Hearing Salam's cry for help, locals chased the gang and caught four of them red-handed while others managed to flee. Angry villagers after a mass beating handed them over to police. Police said the arrestees were wanted in several cases of robbery in Bera and Santhia areas.
