Four BCL, 3 Shibir activists arrested from around RU
Motihar police on Tuesday night arrested four Chhatra League (BCL) and three Shibir activists from Rajshahi University (RU) areas on separate charges.
The arrested BCL activists include Manzurul Alam, a third year student, Sahabuddin Al Faruq and Muhammad Hanif, both fourth year students of Political Science department and Monzurul Kawsar, a first year student of Social Work department of Rajshahi College.
They were arrested from Kazla area near the university at around 9:30pm upon a complaint by Mehedi Hasan, a first year student of Language department, of snatching a mobile phone and Tk 1,000 from him, police said.
Meanwhile, police arrested the three Shibir activists -- Rezaul Karim Raju, a fourth year student of Arabic department and a resident of a Shibir controlled dormitory, Anamul Haque and Shafikul Islam -- in connection with February 9, 2010 violence that left BCL worker Fareque Hossain killed and at least 100 BCL activists injured.
Tipped off, police raided the Shibir dormitory at around 10:00pm and arrested the aforesaid Shibir men, said Abul Khayer, officer-in-charge of Motihar police station.
