Rajshahi-C'nawabganj buses on strike

Bus communications between Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj came to a halt yesterday morning as transport owners went on an indefinite strike demanding stoppage of plying locally made motor vehicles nasimon and bhutbhuti on the highway. Transport owners of Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj jointly enforced the strike. In Chapainawabganj, Bus Owners Association and District Truck and Motor Workers Union called the strike, reports our correspondent. Yahiya Biswas, general secretary of Chapainawabganj Bus Owners Association and Shahidul Islam Shahid, president of District Truck and Motor Workers union said, they went on strike following attack on drivers and helpers of buses at Kadom Haji intersection and Godagari by Nasimon, Bhutbhuti drivers and owners. The attackers also damaged two buses of Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj owners, they said. According to our staff correspondent in Rajshahi, four people were killed when a passenger bus hit a nasimon on Chapainawabganj- Rajshahi highway at Fultala under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi on Monday. After the accident, agitated people attacked and damaged the bus while police seized it. Another bus hit a bhutbhuti on Chapainawabganj- Gomostapur Road at Kadam Hajir intersection on the same day injuring the passengers of the bhutbhuti. This triggered agitation and people ransacked the bus.
