Idols, gold looted from temple

A theft was committed at a temple at Gallamari on the bank of Mayur River under Sonadanga Police Station of Khulna city early yesterday. The thieves took away five idols and two gold chains from Radha Madhab Mandir, police said. The looted idols are made of gold, silver, copper, bronze, zinc, lead, iron and bell-metal, said Shuvo Gobinda Das, general secretary of Radha Madhab Mandir Protection Committee. All the four priests of the temple were asleep when the theft was committed, said Gourheshwar Nimai Das Brahmachari, caretaker of the temple. According to police, thieves entered the temple, breaking lock of its main gate between 3:00am and 4:00am. Shuvo Gobinda Das lodged an FIR with Sonadanga Police Station at 2:00pm yesterday naming none as accused of stealing idols.
