8 Hizb-ut Tawhid men arrested

Jihadi books, CDs, posters and leaflets seized

At least eight suspected members of Islamist outfit Hizb-ut Tawhid were arrested with Jihadi books, leaflets, posters and compact disks (CDs) in Joypurhat district yesterday. The arrestees are team leader Asaduzzaman Shohel Khan, 28, son of Abul Hossain Khan of village Rajpara of Rajshahi, Md Mahmudul Karim, 37, son of Md. Abdul Mannan, village Binodpur of Motihar upazila, Foysal Kabir, 25, son of late Nazrul Islam of village Talaimari of Boaliya upazila and Rabiul Ahmed Rubel, 18, son of Mohir Uddin of Kazla village under the same upazila in Rajshahi and Meraj Uddin, 18, son of Md Abul Kashem of village Balighata in Gangni upazila, Tanzizur Rahman Tapan, 18, son of Shahabuddin of Harabhanga village, Nafiz Uddin, 45, son of Bhadu Shaikh of Mathmora village and Md Abdus Samad, 37, son of Fedali Mondal of Nishipur village of the same upazila in Meherpur district. Sources said a team of Rab-5 in Joypurhat, acting on a tip-off, raided Khanjonpur village under Sadar upazila yesterday noon and arrested eight as they gathered there for holding a meeting at a houses. During the raid, the Rab members also seized 68 books on Jihad, 85 pieces of posters, 196 compact disks and 6,500 leaflets from their procession. Rab officials said the outfit men were engaged in collecting new members and expanding network in the district. Founder of the outfit is Humayun Khan Panni of Tangail district. Sources said, Asaduzzaman Shohel Khan was arrested twice earlier but came out after securing bail from courts.
