BCL leader beats up SI at police station in Natore
A Chhatra League (BCL) leader assaulted a sub-inspector of police inside a police station on Monday noon.
Police said, Faruk Hossain, general secretary of Gol-e-Afraz College unit BCL assaulted SI Nuruzzaman of Singra police station as he tried to stop him from beating up a member of a rival party.
Witnesses and sources said, Faruk, also an OMS (open market sell) dealer in Tazpur area locked in a quarrel with BNP activist Khuyar when he came to buy OMS rice from Faruk.
At one stage, Jubo Dal leader Sahadat Hossain came to manage the situation.
On information, police rushed to the spot, arrested Shahadat and Khuyar and took them to Singra police station.
When another Jubo Dal leader, Habib Master, came to see the arrestees at Singra PS, Faruk beat up Habib inside the police station.
Faruk also assaulted sub-inspector Nuruzzaman as he tried to protect Habib.
Police arrested Faruk and within a few minutes agitated BCL and Jubo League leaders and activists led by BCL leader Lutfur Habib Rubel attacked the police station and damaged its boundary wall, said policeman.
Rubel is the president of Gol-e-Afraz College unit BCL and also brother-in-law of Zunaeed Ahmad Palak, MP of Singra constituency.
Sub-inspector Nuruzzaman later said, Faruk assaulted him inside the police station as he tried to save Jubo Dal leader Habib from Faruk's anger.
Nasirul Islam, additional superintendent of police in Natore said, police arrested Faruk on charge of assaulting police personnel.
Faizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Singra police station said, police also arrested Shahadat and Khuyar in a case filed on charge of looting OMS rice.
