Minister vows to punish culprit as protest on

Teachers formed a long human chain on Abdul Hamid Road in the town yesterday demanding arrest and punishment of the criminal who hacked to death Arifa Khatun, a teacher of Bhainapara Government Primary School in Santhia upazila, inside her classroom on Sunday noon. As part of three-day demonstration demanding the same, primary school teachers in nine upazilas of Pabna district also held separate programmes yesterday, said Md Abdul Kader, secretary of Pabna district unit committee of Bangladesh Primary Teachers Association. The association also submitted a memorandum to the prime minister through the deputy commissioner in this regard. Primary teachers across the country will start countrywide demonstration if Arifa's killer is not arrested within 10 days, said BM Asadullah, central committee Secretary of Bangladesh Primary Teachers Association. In a condolence meeting at Bhainapara Government Primary School in Santhia upazila, Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr Afsarul Amin assured punishment of the killer. He urged the people to build social security measure to ensure security of different classes of people. Later the minister visited Arifa's paternal residence in Sirajganj district to condole the bereaved family. Ataikula police on Sunday night arrested van driver Robiul Islam, who had brought the killer to the school premises on Sunday noon, from Chowbaria village. He was given a five-day remand when police produced him before a court on Monday. "We have found some clues to the incident. We are trying to find out more information from the arrested van puller. We have collected five mobile SIMS from the victim's vanity bag and we are searching those,” Pabna Superintendent of Police Md Jahangir Hossain Motobbar said.
