Three youths jailed for stalking, 3 others held
Mobile courts in Jamalpur, Satkhira and Panchagarh have jailed three youths for stalking while police in Brahmanbaria arrested three others for teasing a schoolgirl.
A mobile court in Jamalpur on Saturday convicted a young man and awarded him a six-month imprisonment for sexually harassing a girl at Jamalpur railway station on Friday night.
Convict Md Reza, 22, is son of Nurul Islam Geda of Dewanpara under Jamalpur municipality, reports our correspondent.
Victim's brother-in-law Sarwar, residing at west Nayapara of the town, said his sister-in-law Mursheda Akter,22, daughter of late Khurshed Alam of village Hazrabari under Melandah upazila of the district went to Jamalpur Railway Station with a domestic heldp to receive her elder sister Khurshida Parvin on Friday night.
They were waiting for Jamuna Express train.
At about 11:30 pm, a drunken Reza sat beside Mursheda at the waiting room and allegedly harassed her sexually. At one stage the victim cried out for help. The on-duty GRP police caught Reza and took him to Jamalpur Railway (GRP) police station.
Next morning, a mobile court led by magistrate Liakat Ali handed down the punishment to Reza and fined him Tk5000, in default, to suffer more 15 days in jail.
In Satkhira, a mobile court sentenced a young man to three months' simple imprisonment for stalking a class nine student at village Dhuliarpur in Kaliganj upazila on Thursday.
Kaliganj upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Toufique-e-Elahi Chowdhury, also the executive magistrate, pronounced the judgment after hearing both sides.
Convict Afsar Hossain Milon, 20, is son of Md Ruhul Amin Gazi of village Probajpur in the upazila .
Mobile court sources said Milon used to stalk Maria Sultana Mousumi, 13, daughter of Babul Chunuri of village Probajpur, also a student of Dhuliarpur High School on her way to school off and on.
The convict sexually harassed her while going to school. Hearing a hue and cry, local people rushed to the spot and rescued the girl.
The victim's father filed an allegation with Kaliganj PS and police arrested him.
In Panchagarh, a youth was sentenced to 15 days imprisonment by a mobile court for teasing a girl on Tuesday night.
Stalker Nasiruddin Rony, 20, is son of late Shamsher Ali of Masjid Para area in the town.
Mobile court sources said a group of youths teased a girl, Meher Sabiha, 13, and also hit her near Collectorate Mosque on Tuesday night.
A police constable rescued the girl and managed to catch one of the stalkers, Rony, while others fled away.
Following allegation by the victim, a mobile court, led by executive magistrate Hamidul Islam, handed down the verdict.
UNB from Brahmanbaria reports: Police arrested three stalkers on charge of teasing a schoolgirl in Mirpur village of Nabinagar upazila early Friday.
The arrestees were identified as Ibrahim, 18, Saidul, 19, and Sumon, 22, of Mirpur village.
Nabinagar police said Ibrahim, Saidul and Sumon used to tease Sharmin Akhter, a student of class IX of Mirpur High School.
Last Thursday afternoon they again started teasing her and threw a cricket ball at her while she was returning home from the school. Seriously injured, she was admitted to Nabinagar Sadar Hospital.
Sharmin's father Forkan Mia filed a case with Nabinagar PS. The stalkers were sent to District Court.
