Gang kills girl after rape in Sunamganj
A teenage girl was killed after rape by unidentified criminals at Adityapur village under Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district early yesterday.
The victim, Mili Rani Das, 16, daughter of Porindra Chandra Das of Dritiar Dehi village in Barlekha upazila of Moulvibazar, was staying at a house at Adityapur village rented by her uncle Joydev Das as his wife Doli Rani Das works as a field organiser of Grameen Bank at Jawabazar branch in Chhatak upazila.
Police quoted neighbours as saying that the gang entered the house at Adityapur village at around 1:00am by breaking open door of the room in which Mili was asleep.
They raped Mili and hit on the head as she started screaming. They also hit Mili's aunt Doli Rani with a sharp weapon when she rushed to the room, hearing scream.
Being informed by neighbours, police reached the spot and took Mili and her aunt Doli to Koitak health centre at around 2:30am. Doctors of the hospital sent the two to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital around 3:00am where Mili was declared dead on arrival. Doli Rani is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Police also recovered a cleaver from Mili's bed. Sub-inspector Nazrul Islam of Jawanbazar police investigation centre said they are waiting for autopsy report.
Doli Rani's husband Joydev, a schoolteacher in Moulvibazar, reached the village yesterday morning. He said he will file a case with the police station concerned, but no case was filed in connection with the incident as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday.
