'Robber' beaten to death
A suspected robber was beaten to death by a mob and another was injured at Kamta in Shaturia upazila early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Jewel alias Chanchal, 28, of Nagarpur upazila of Tangail district.
Police said a gang of six highway robbers intercepted an autorickshaw on Golra-Shaturia road and took away cash and valuables from the passengers at around 6:00 am.
Hearing hue and cry of the passengers local people rushed in and caught two of the robbers and gave them a good beating.
On information, police rescued Chanchal and his associate Joynal, 26, of Farirchar village in Sadar upazila, and took them to Sadar hospital where Chanchal succumbed to his injuries.
