Robbery at former RU teacher's house, 2 held

Gold ornaments, computer and other goods worth Tk. 5 lakh were looted from the house of a former teacher of Rajshahi University (RU) on Sunday night. Police arrested two robbers after locals caught them red-handed at dead of night while they were trying to decamp with the looted goods, from a nearby housing project area. Sources said, a gang took away the goods and valuables breaking open the door of the house of Prof Devendra Nath Odikari, a former teacher of Philosophy department of the university. Prof Odikari said, the robbers looted 5 tolas of gold, one computer, clothes and other goods from five showcases and lockers of his house as all his family members were in Dhaka on the night. The robbery came to light as some locals of the area noticed that a few men carrying goods from the house at the dead of night. Within minutes the residents of the area caught two of them red-handed while others managed to flee with the goods. The robbers were handed over to Motihar police. The arrestees were identified as Kashem Mia, son of Abul Mia of Panchaboti area in the city and Jabed Ali, son of Amir Ali of the same area. Motihar police said a case was filed accusing five people including the two with the police station.
