40 hurt in clash over disputed water body
At least 40 people were injured as two rival villagers clashed at Borantar village under Mohonganj upazila over a disputed water body.
Police and local people said, there was a long-standing dispute between Robbani Khan group and Nur Mohammad Khan group of the village over control of a disputed water body known as “Moradhonu”.
Yesterday noon, when Nur Mohammad and his men went to the water body for fishing, at least 100 people belonging to Robbani group attacked them with licensed guns, sharp and lethal weapons.
During the clash, Robbani fired three bullets from his licensed gun, Sheikh Salahuddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohonganj police station said.
Bullet-hit Al-Amin, Suzadul Islam and Suhel Mia were sent to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. Others were admitted to local health complex.
In Thakurgaon, at least 15 people were injured in separate clashes over land disputes in Bashgara and Bishwaspur villages of Sadar upazila on Saturday, reports UNB.
In the first incident at Bashgara village, an altercation ensued Saturday morning when Hossain Ali protested sowing of Boro seeds by Islam Hossain in his land. Later, the two groups equipped with sticks attacked each other, leaving eight people injured on the spot.
In another incident at Bishwaspur village, a violent clash erupted when Karam Ali went to take possession of his land at about 1:00 pm but Prosadu Barman of the same village claimed that he is the legal owner of the land.
Later, both the groups attacked each other injuring seven people from both sides.
