Two rescued, 8 held on abduction charge
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) rescued a five-year-old boy and a girl and arrested 8 people for their alleged involvement in two cases of abduction in Dinajpur and Joypurhat on Monday and the day before.
Rab rescued Rashed Babu, son of a rickshaw puller in Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur district and Ruma Begum of Kalai upazila of Joypurhat district.
The arrestees were identified as Shahinur, Firoz, Sultan, Amirul, Saidur of Kalai upazila, Anwar Hossain of Joypurhat Sadar upazila and Milon Hossain and Deel Hossain of Bhabanipur of Phulbari upazilas of Dinajpur district.
Lt Col Alamgir Hossain, Commanding Officer of Joypurhat Rab-5 said, acting on a tip-off, a Rab team raided Phulbari railway station on Sunday night and rescued Rashed Babu, son of Anamul Haque. Milon and Deel were arrested in connection with the abduction.
Rashed Babu was abducted on Sunday morning from his residence. Later the culprits demanded Tk50,000 ransom, said Anamul Haque.
Rab handed over Rashed to his father on Monday afternoon.
In another incident, Ruma Begum, daughter of Osman Gani of Kalai upazila of Joypurhat district was abducted on Monday morning from Joypurhat rail gate area. However, the Rab members rescued her within hours and arrested six people in this connection.
A microbus allegedly used to abduct her was also seized by Rab.
