Father demands justice

RU Correspondent
Father of Nasirullah Nasim, who died due to merciless beating by BCL men at Shah Makhdoom Hall of Rajshahi University (RU) last year, yesterday demanded punishment to the people responsible for the death of his son. Nasim's father Muhammad Moslemuddin was speaking at a press conference on the campus. He also demanded permanent expulsion of the BCL men involved in the killing. Nasim, a fourth year history student of the university and a resident of Shah Makhdoom Hall, was beaten up by BCL men following a dispute over distribution of iftar among the students of the hall on the occasion of National Mourning Day. They also pushed him (Nasim) down from the first floor of the hall. Moslemuddin alleged that despite expulsion by RU authorities, the BCL men are staying on the campus getting bail in the killing case and attending their classes. They have been putting pressure on Nasim's friend Azam Ali, a student of population science department, to withdraw the case that he filed with Motihar police station, accusing 10 BCL men of killing Nasim, he further alleged. Moslemuddin urged the university authorities and the law enforcers to take immediate steps to punish the killers of his son. Critically injured Nasim was first admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where he died on August 23. On the basis of a probe, the RU Syndicate temporarily expelled six BCL men and sent the findings of the investigation to the university's disciplinary committee on September 5. The expelled BCL men are Zahirul Islam of public administration department, Lutfur Rahman of zoology department, Zahidul Islam of Social Work department, Toufiqul Islam of Bangla department, Ruhul Amin of political science department, and Moshiur Rahman of psychology department.
