Felani's family members return home 'safely'
Mother, brothers and sisters of Bangladeshi girl Felani, who was killed in firing by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Anantapur border of Phulbari upazila on January 7, returned home from India on Monday night.
The returnees, Felani's mother Jahana Begum, brothers Jahangir Alo, 10, Arfan Ali, 7, and Akkas Ali, 5, and sisters Maleka Khatun, 12, and Kazoli Khatun, 3, had been living a poor life in Bangai area under Assam province of India for years.
“I communicated with my family in India through mobile phone. My wife and children came to a relative's house at Chowdhury Hat near Indian border on Monday morning. The relatives helped my family to cross the border on Monday evening. At night they stayed at my mother-in-law's house at Banerbhita village. From there they came to my house at Colonitari village in Rumkhana union under Nageswari upazila of Kurigram district today [Tuesday] morning,” said Felani's father Nur Islam, 35.
"I have heard that Felani's family has come to their house in Bangladesh. They went to India and returned from there in similar ways. The government is not involved in the matter," Inspector Moazzem Hossen of Nageswari police station said.
Abdul Zabbar, company commander of Kashipur check post of Border Guard Bangladesh, said they are not aware of Felani's family members' return to Bangladesh.
